About

On October 10, 2025 Suzanna Bierwirth, her team and fiber artist Stacy Nelson opened the doors to Yarn Haus, a store-in-a-store right inside Goods & Heroes at 7 Maple St. in Three Oaks.

Yarn Haus specializes in natural fibers from animals and plants, sourced from regional Michigan, as well as other North American and international fiber companies. Weekly, free community get-togethers are offered as well as thoughtful classes for beginners and advanced crafters.

"Mother Nature and community are the cornerstone of our passion for making and living a creative life."

Suzanna opened lifestyle store Goods & Heroes in 2016. The store offers a wide range of maker-made objects and art as well as timeless clothing, footwear, and accessories for men and women. Makers include clothing artist Catherine Doll of Sawyer; Cynthia Ashby from Woodstock, Illinois; Privatsachen from Hamburg, Germany; and CYDWOQ, a handmade shoe company from Northern California.

“I am a big supporter of the slow and mindful fashion movement. We showcase many makers who create one-of-a-kind pieces or entirely handmade lines. Extending our offering into yarn is a natural next step for me. Nothing is more lasting than a garment you created yourself. Nothing is more satisfying than to make something with your own hands.”

Crafting runs in Bierwirth’s DNA. “From knitted Icelandic sweaters, to the most intricate lacework and needlepointed handkerchiefs, to colorful crocheted afghan shawls, the women I was surrounded by in my childhood would always have a project in their lap.” Fun fact: She grew up in Altena, a small town in Westphalia, Germany, best known as the place where Addi, the worldwide leader and innovator of steel knitting needles and crochet hooks, has been making their goods since 1829.
