Jamieson's of Shetland

Five generations of Jamieson’s have dedicated themselves to Shetland wool since the company was started in the 1890s in the islands off the coast of Scotland. Each successive generation has updated the business to eventually produce a 100% Shetland wool yarn. In 1981 the Jamieson family opened Shetland’s only commercial woolen mill that completes all the stages of yarn production under one roof from grading, scouring, dying, color blending, carding, spinning, twisting, and balling. The Shetlands have been the home of a tiny and hardy heritage sheep breed for over a thousand years, and they are well-suited for the harsh conditions on the North Sea. The wool the little sheep produce is one of the finest and the yarns are used in traditional Shetland Fair Isle stranded colorwork sweaters and delicate knit lace shawls. The Jamieson’s handknitting yarns are offered in over 200 distinct colors and can be used for traditional or modern projects.
