Koigu

Koigu’s variegated skeins are some of the most recognized in the knitting world. The Landra family have been making these hand-painted yarns in rural Dornoch, Ontario and named the company after the family’s ancestral home in Estonia. Textile artist Maie Landra raised sheep and started by using their home-grown fleece in woven art and knit fashions. When Maie’s daughter Taiu joined the business, Koigu expanded their colorful Merino yarn offerings to other artists. Grandaughter Kersti joined the team and there are now 3 generations of Landra women and their staff painting, hanking, labeling, and shipping yarn to stores around the world. The Koigu journey from producing yarn in small hand-dyed batches in their farmhouse kitchen to partnering with a textile mill they were able to expand their yarn offerings to more weights and colorways. Their colorful yarns are a knitting favorite making even simple knitting patterns stand out.
